Deion Sanders is a Victim of Wishful Reporting

Dan Patrick: "I keep going back to Odell Beckham Jr. last year. I kept saying 'no one is asking the correct question - when can you play?' All it was was people speculating where he would go. I said 'hold on, can somebody ask OBJ if he thinks he can play?' That's when OBJ sent a tweet out, calling me a 'football outsider,' which was fine. I was just asking a rational question, but that's not any fun. No one wants to be a buzzkill saying Deion is probably going to win 2 games. That's no fun. I've been doing this for 40 years. I've made these mistakes before. You get caught up in the hype. If you give something that's real, then it feels like you don't like them, or you're a hater. And that's not always the case. I want to caution people who do this for a living, because we get excited. What if Deion starts 0-5? And he might! But that doesn't mean he won't be successful, just be realistic about the expectations."

Dan Patrick explains how media and fans alike are setting unrealistic expectations for Deion Sanders in his first year at Colorado. Dan looks at how their expected win total of 3 is consistently overlooked when people discuss Coach Prime's Pac-12 debut. Dan compares this situation to the way people viewed Odell Beckham Jr. last year, and may be viewing Lamar Jackson and Victor Wembanyama this year.
