Arrest Warrant Was Issued For Bengals Star Joe Mixon

An arrest warrant has been issued for Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe MixonWKRC reported on Thursday (February 2) citing online court records.

Mixon is charged with aggravated menacing and accused of pointing a gun at a woman and saying, “You should be popped in the face. I should shoot you now. The police can’t get me." The incident is reported to have taken place in downtown Cincinnati on January 21, one day prior to the Bengals' AFC Divisional Round road win against the Buffalo Bills.

Mixon's agent, Peter Schaffer, claimed the charges against the running back would be dropped on Friday (February 3) in a statement obtained by NFL.com.

"It was a rush to judgement. They're dropping the charges first thing in the morning," Schaffer reportedly said. "I really feel that police have an obligation before they file charges -- because of the damage that can be done to the person's reputation-- to do their work. They should be held to a higher standard. Because I don't play with people's lives."

The Bengals also issued a statement confirming that they were "aware" of the charges being raised, adding that they were "investigating the situation and will not comment further at this time."

Mixon had previously been charged with misdemeanor assault and was suspended by the Oklahoma Sooners for the entire 2014 college football season in relation to an incident in which he was shown on video punching and knocking out a female student on the University of Oklahoma campus in July 2014. The running back completed a full year of probation, 100 hours of community service and behavioral counseling as part of a plea agreement reached in relation to the charge.

Mixon was selected by the Bengals at No. 48 overall in the second-round of the 2017 NFL Draft and has served as the team's primary running back. The 26-year-old recorded 814 yards and seven touchdowns on 210 rushing attempts during the 2022 NFL regular season.
