FS1 ‘Speak For Yourself’ host Jason Whitlock joined Outkick the Coverage talking about one of the most evolving storylines in football over the last month, as Ryan Fitzpatrick has shockingly led the Bucs to a 2-1 record after playing three of the best teams in the NFL, Philadelphia, New Orleans and Pittsburgh.
The NFL journeyman has played for seven teams in 14 years and was expected to simply be a stop-gap during Jameis Winston’s three-game suspension, but unexpectedly has put up the second highest passer rating in the league through three games.
But despite the glamourous hoopla around Ryan ‘Fitz-Magic’, Whitlock thinks it’s foolish to be a prisoner of the moment for a 36-year-old backup QB who is 20 games under .500 for his career who has never led a team to the postseason. Especially when it would mean a bench role for the 24-year-old Winston, who not only finished with his best statistical season in 2017 but led all QB’s in passer rating during the 2018 preseason.
