The WNBA players are positioning themselves for a work stoppage as they try to negotiate better pay now that their league is beginning to generate some real revenue on the strength of Caitlin Clark’s popularity, but Doug cautions them to temper their expectations. They have been losing momentum ever since they failed to include Clark on the Olympic team last season and it didn’t improve with her injury this season. Plus, they’ll be competing with the World Cup next summer so the gravy train may slow down even more.
Doug Gottlieb: “Whether or not the women of the WNBA deserve a better deal than they have is sort of inconsequential because right now they’ve lost the PR battle. They’ve lost the PR battle from this basic standpoint is people think that no one in the league likes Caitlin Clark, and they’re super entitled.”
