Former NFL head coach Joe Philbin has reportedly been hired by Ohio State as an offensive analyst, sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN's Pete Thamel on Tuesday (May 23).

"Sources: Ohio State has hired former NFL head coach Joe Philbin as an offensive analyst. He’s the former head coach of the Miami Dolphins and won a Super Bowl as Green Bay’s offensive coordinator," Thamel tweeted.

Philbin, 61, previously worked as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2012-15, after nearly a decade in various offensive assistant roles with the Green Bay Packers. The Massachusetts native most recently worked as an offensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys dating back to the 2020 season, before being let go by the team after the conclusion of the 2022 regular season.

Philbin also worked as an interim coach during his second stint as the Packers' offensive coordinator in 2018.

The veteran coach will join a Buckeyes staff led by head coach Ryan Day and an offense led by first-year coordinator Brian Hartline, an Ohio State alum and former NFL wide receiver who initially joined the program as an offensive quality control assistant before being promoted to wide receivers coach in 2018 and adding passing game coordinator in 2022.
